Mentors

The success of these software projects will rely on a number of volunteer resources to serve many varied responsibilities.

We expect this venture to revolve around volunteers and mentors so the combined efforts and resources will be well and efficiently guided towards our objectives.

The challenge will be to have sufficient constraints and controls without excessive overhead inefficiencies. A balance needs to be achieved.

It is visualized that a few programmers, designers and monitors doing the heavy lifting will be remunerated, but many important positions will be status volunteers or mentors, mostly or typically on a pre-approved cost expense reimbursement basis.

ZZZOSS will be operated as a not-for-profit business financed by donations.

Not stated in the ZZZOSS name, but intended to include the free aspect. As frequently observed in FOSS (ie free open source software). The word ‘free’ in this context, has two meanings: free of charge to use as licensed; and free to use the code as licensed (for other purposes).

The licensing is likely to be similar to the MIT License, but not yet decided.

Donors, along with contributing volunteers and mentors, all become stakeholders with a feel-good interest in being involved in such worthwhile projects.

Volunteers, including mentors, are like salespeople, in that they make the world go round. They will be the prime movers, and as such are highly valued.
